Massive "wald glas" seal bottle made in Holstein, Germany in the last quarter of the 17th century and having a large applied seal showing a portraint of Prince William III of Orange. William went on to become king of England in 1689 and he died in 1702. A similar bottle is shown in Antique Glass Bottles by Van den Bossche on page 113, with the one in the book being 23 centimeters tall where this example here is 40 centimeters (16 inches) tall. Besides the size, another great feature of this bottle is that it was cold painted on both sides with one side showing a naval scene and portrait of the prince. There are obvious losses to the paint but the bottle itself is undamaged. A very rare and extrodinary bottle.
