A freeblown milkglass epergne with red and blue marbrie decoration made by Nicholas Lutz at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Works circa 1876. It was made in three sections with the base and bowl plastered together and inside the bowl there is a plastered on brass threaded connector, the same type Sandwich used on their Onion lamps, to hold the trumpet on, so the tumpet can be unscrewed. A truly iconic and patriotic piece of American glass made by one of America's most famous 19th century blowers and it is considered to be one of it not the finest surviving piece made by Lutz. According to his son Victor, his father made this in the year of our nation's centennial, 1876, which also happened to be the year Nicholas Lutz became an American citizen.
