This tankard is a remarkable piece of workmanship. Glass was trailed around the body three times and then the glass was pulled up numerous times. The handle is ribbed and it has a crimped thumb rest. This sits on a trailed and crimped foot. Extremely rare survivor from the early 17th century. A similar example can be seen in the book Die Glassammlung des Bayerischen Nationalmuseums Munich in plate 398 on page 109 where their example is described as South German or Alpine region, 1st half of the 17th century. Height 13.97 centimeters (5.5 inches). Excellent condition.
