A unique and important pair of freeblown 18th century American candlesticks in lead glass having a grey blue tint to the glass. There is fine threading applied to the outer top edges of both feet. They were making lead glass in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the 18th century so a Mid-Atlantic attribution is very likely. One candlestick suffered a broken foot at some point and was expertly repaired some time in the 19th century with staples. Considering how very thin the domed foot with folded rim is, this staple repair in and of itself is remarkable and shows us that even way back then these candlesticks were treasured by the people who owned them. These rank right up there at the very top of 18th century American blown candlesticks which as a whole probably number only about a dozen examples. Hieght about 8.25 inches.
