This amethyst and white decanter is the finest of its kind and was probably made in Switzerland or France in the first half of the 18th century. I only know of one other in this shape which is in blue, and that one has the typical pewter mount, not gold. It can be seen in the book Reine Formsache Deutsches Formglas 15. Bis 19. Jahrhundert in plate 489 on page 317. This is the only Alpine bottle I know of with a gold mount and it all appears to be original. This was obviously made for someone of importance. A jewler tested the gold and it tested as somewhere between 14 and 18 carat. Height overall is 24.76 centimeters (9.75 inches). Undamaged but the tiny square nut is missing from the threaded post of the stopper.
