This unusual and rare enameled bottle was made in Saxony and is dated 1655 (in white enamel on either side of the tree trunk). It originally held "Zittwer Wasser (water)" which was used as a digestive aid and made from zedoary root that is native to India and Indonesia. The Arabs introduced it to Europe in the sixth century, where it enjoyed great popularity in the middle ages. 22.8 centimeters (9 inches) tall. Overall excellent condition with only some minor content staining from use.
