This is a very special piece and one that I have no problem with calling unique. A lead glass enamel twist wine having a two strand central twist surrounded by a ten ply ribbon. What makes this glass so incredible is that the bowl is in aquamarine non-lead glass. This glass could have only been made in one place in my opinion, William henry Stiegel's American Flint Manufactory. While Stiegel tried to compete with the English lead glass tableware being sold in America, his bread and butter was window glass so it is not really surprising that both lead glass and non-lead aquamarine window glass were being made side by side in his factory, while this is something that would be considered very odd to have been done in England in their well established lead glass tableware factories and thus no examples are known in England to exist. What makes the Stiegel attribution even more solid is the stem, a 2 strand central twist surrounded by a 10 ply ribbon is exactly what is in the Stiegel goblet stem that Stiegel made for his daugher on her wedding day. It is engraved W & E Old and can be found in the Corning Museum of Glass. That can be no coincidence. This glass is 6 inches tall. Excellent condition with one very small flake off the edge of the foot.
